I played a little guitar

I played a little guitar with hoyhoy the other day. This has made me start mentally compiling my dream band. Monroe, wake up, dude. I’m talking to you. -Deekster singing and Kahl to be the token Real Musician… I haven’t talked it over with the others, but we’re probably available for parties. Contact me for booking information.

The Christmas Problem

Mrs. Bumper and I are having our yearly disagreement about The Christmas Problem. The Christmas Problem is corollary, and nearly opposite to The Fencepost Problem. The Fencepost Problem is so named because the notion of fenceposts is expository to the problem. The Christmas Problem is so named because that’s the time the problem always comes up. The problem is also evident when something arduous is almost over, but that’s a more ponderous title. Indeed I first noticed The Christmas Problem when looking forward to the end of boot camp. The root of the problem is that some people mistakenly believe that one should count the present day or the final day in doing a countdown. This is obviously folly, but some exceptionally delusional people actually try to count both! So today being the 19th and Christmas being the 25th, there are five Days until Christmas; the 20th, 21st, 22nd, 23rd and 24th. End of lesson.

We went to the Medrano’s house tonight and watched a play put on by a small subset of the Medrano Children. I think it’s the best Christmas play I’ve seen. Based on A Christmas Carol, but with lovable Sci-Fi characters. How could it go wrong.

get some coffee

Go to 7-Eleven and get some coffee, enjoy the beverage and admire the cup. Not only does 7-Eleven have consistently good coffee at a reasonable price they have now pushed the state of the art in disposable coffee cups way, way ahead of anyone else. If I tried to explain all the wonders of this cup you would write me off as a crank. You’ll just have to go experience it yourself.
Disclaimer: I have had a lot of free coffee from 7-Eleven in my day, but this endorsement is wholly voluntary.

Spear and Slash and Toler

Spear and Slash and Toler and Momma Fox and a bunch of other folks got ceremonially promoted today. A few pictures are available.
Mike promoted to Detective even though he was number one on the Corporal’s list. I guess he’s the first guy to be eligible under two lists. I say “I guess” but I’m really pretty certain of that. Anyway I’m glad he chose to go the Detective route, because we work in the same building and I get to see him. Or rather I would get to see him if he ever showed up for work.

Insider trading tip

Insider trading tip: Armor Holdings is about to go through the roof. Strong Buy on AH this week because Paul Ford is the new Director of Marketing for Def-Tec/Fed Labs. Congratulations to AH (NYSE) and PF.

Happy birthday Nugget. I guess his birthday is really the 4th of November, but he starts according to UTC. He claims to be 0x21 today (tomorrow), but that may be zero indexed.

Gucciflage

Second day at my new job. So, of course, I took off to help with the Final FTX at SWAT School. School seemed to be running smoothly, mad props to the cadre and congratulations to the graduates.
On a completely unrelated note: “Fumes” Dwyer painted up my little rifle in Full-Pimp Gucciflage® for the fall. I couldn’t be more pleased with the workmanship.

shoot with the boys

I got to go out and shoot with the boys today. Mike, knowing I would be there, was apparently afraid to show up with a rifle. I can’t blame him, but it would have been nice to have him there. I’m sure he needs the practice.
Bigfoot Dave even offered to take me to the movies, so it was a pretty good day. He later rescinded the offer when he found out I would have to wear running shorts. He’s fashion sensitive that way.

For those of you keeping up

For those of you keeping up with our driveway ordeal, here’s what happened at our meeting with the city council today: The City decided to drop the lawsuit and acquire our driveway in a more conventional manner. I still can’t figure out why they want it, but it looks like it’s getting settled in a normal and fair way. The money and stuff is good, but the best part was when our lawyer told them that we were, of course, aware that they had the power to just condemn the land anytime they wanted. ie. “We know that your city attorney duped you into wasting $30,000.00.” Haha.
We tried to add the condition that the city council had to line up and all take a punch, but they drew the line at that. Maybe next time.

The Italian Job

Mrs. Bumper and I went to see The Italian Job this afternoon and got in about twenty minutes late. This means that we only watched ten minutes worth of previews. There were about 50 people scattered throughout the stadium-style theatre upon our arrival. The second the feature presentation started, 40 people from around the theatre wordlessly got up and left. These people weren’t sitting together; they didn’t seem to share any demographic similarity. They just all left as the movie started. Weird.

attempted theft of our driveway

Well, we haven’t heard from The City regarding their attempted theft of our driveway in some time. Except:

  1. The attorney they have already given $20,000.00 to use as a bludgeon has finally done something constructive and hired another attorney.
  2. A surveying crew (actually the same guys that surveyed this place when we bought it) showed up and started surveying our property. They said that they were sent by the city, but seemed surprised to find out why.
  3. Today, while no one was home, someone installed a pin in the street behind our house and a stake in the front. These things seem to be on our property line and look like they might deliniate the portion of the yard the city plans to steal. That would be conjecture on my part though. Maybe the pin and stake are leftover skylab pieces just coming down. *shrug*
