These jokers have been hotlinking a couple of my pictures for quite some time now.The traffic has risen above the noise with the new school year approaching and so I take a minute to contemplate my options.
Of course there’s always the option of ignoring it as I have been, and there are easily implementable technological means to stop it. I don’t really want to disallow hotlinking, because certainly it’s mostly used for good and not evil; this particular one just bugs me a little. I mean it’s a community college! Every image on the page, except for my two, is hosted by the community college server. It’s just me that someone decided to punk out for bandwidth.
I like gregh’s method of adding a banner with copyright statement to the picture (I think this is a nice way to deal with the problem, but I can’t spend my whole life trying to copy all of gregh’s good ideas).
So obviously I’m thinking of replacing these two pictures with something more interesting. Thoughts that immediately spring to mind are things like just flipping them upside down, drawing stickmen in a similar pose, a text-star that says something like “Students get to kill a live goat in this class!!!” or “Personal cadaver required for final”. Oddly enough the size is noted in the page, so using a full-size hoyhoy screenshot won’t work. email me your best (G-rated) ideas and if I’m still in a bad mood in a few days we’ll implement the funniest ones.
